Welcome -- something for everyone

Welcome to the MMNT 2008 "IT in English" Blog...

hopefully we'll share interesting things about Information Technology and the Internet during our 6 sessions together... and perhaps help you to feel more at ease in English too!

here are some sites that I think might be interesting for you to investigate.... perhaps you could choose something from each of them to present to the group in the coming sessions (and to post to the blog).

1) general news sites

I like the New York Times nytimes.com. My Firefox opens to their front page. Not everyone knows that they include a dictionary on all their articles once you click through to it from the front page. (Just double-click on a word.) There's even a sound file for each word so you can hear how it's pronounced.

And of course the NY Times videos are interesting too... Look in the technology section for David Pogue's videos. Here's one about the iPhone apps... or another about the release of the iPhone 2

In the Politics section you might enjoy the TV commercials. The interactive video features of the debate and candidates' speeches make it easy to decide for whom I should vote in the upcoming election. http://elections.nytimes.com/2008/president/debates/first-presidential-debate.html

the IHT.com site the Herald Tribune... they let you choose your dictionary (English definitions or French) and make words in an article clickable... and the IHT will even read the articles to you! (What do you think of the readers?)

What are your favorite general news sites??
